Some dogs walk into a room and command attention without saying a word — Andes is exactly that dog. This stunning 55 pound merle standard poodle is the kind of sire that makes you stop mid sentence just to take him in. His merle coat is a masterpiece of color and pattern, rich and one of a kind in every way, but it is what is underneath that truly sets Andes apart. Genetic tested and cleared, Andes brings not only breathtaking looks to our program but the kind of health and soundness that gives every puppy the best possible foundation from day one. Beyond his striking appearance Andes carries himself with a calm, composed confidence that can only be described as royal. He is steady, intelligent, and deeply connected to the people around him — the kind of dog who reads a room effortlessly and responds with grace. That temperament is not an accident, it is who Andes is at his core. When we chose Andes as a sire for our Aubry we knew we were creating something special. His genetics, his presence, and his personality represent exactly the standard we hold our program to — and we see his brilliance already coming through in every single one of his puppies.

Bernedoodles

The bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese mountain dog and a poodle.

This crossbreed mixes the ingenious silliness of the poodle, with the even-tempered fidelity of the Berner. It is also a smaller sized dog for those who think a Bernese Mountain Dog is a bit too large, or have small children in the house and fear that a large dog breed may be too much of a handful. Bernedoodles shed less than Berners, making them safer for people with allergies.

The Bernedoodle is a great companion dog. Some can have a “messy” look about them. I wouldn’t expect them to win the beauty show award, but that’s not the main reason we adopt our furry friend, is it? But if you are looking for someone who will be happy to be with you on a hike, snowshoeing, out on the yard, or laying by the fireplace; then the Bernedoodle will be what you need.

Although our litters are very consistent to avoid any in-breeding, no two Bernedoodles are identical. The genes from the parent change the litter in infinite permutations of coat marking. If you’d like to choose your own puppy marking, perhaps you should coordinate with us to get your puppy after it has been born and maybe even trained. But your options could be limited to what’s available. Since Bernedoodles are so popular, sometimes they are reserved even before they’re born.

Bernedoodle Report Card:

(Important characteristics and make up of Bernedoodles)

Time With Kids:

A+

The matching of a bernese  mountain dogs and a poodle really makes a berneoodle the perfect blend to be a family dog.

Researching the history of bernese mountain dogs you will quickly learn as dogs their purpose was to protect the herd. Mixing that history with the poodles intellegence, silliness and desire play. Bernedoodles boast characterestics that lead them to bonding with children via play and the inherit pedigree to look out for them.

Hair / Shedding:

A

Each bernedoodles coat is unique due to their genetics. However, generally we consider all our bernedoodles to be minimal to none when it comes shedding.

We also consider all our bernedoodles to be hypoallergenic however, that term is often miss used. If allergies are an important part of your puppy search, let us know. As there is some puppies that have coats more so suited for allergies.

Exercise:

B+

While they are unquestionably meant to live indoors with their family, Bernedoodles enjoy outdoor activities and make great companions on long walks, hikes, hunting trips, camping, and/or backpacking.

But rest and hydration is also important as bernedoodles love to be outside so make sure they are hydrated and rested.

Keeping Your Bernedoodle active and engaged in some form of exercise controls weight, improves brain activity and extends their overall health.

Training:

A+

Early socialization and obedience training are important for all dogs, but especially so for breeds as large as the Bernedoodle. Bernedoodles are intelligent and eager to please, so they are usually easy to train, in fact they enjoy it! They are also affectionate and openhearted; their feelings are easily hurt, and so they don’t respond well to harsh corrections or training methods. They are living proof that gentle giants exist.

They make for great service dogs.

Grooming:

B+

Bernedoodle have a complex mix of long and wooly coats from the Bernese Mountain and the Poodle. Brush your Bernedoodle weekly to minimize shedding and an overgrown coat. Not only it will help your dog look stunning, but it improves coat quality, reduce knotting, minimizes skin conditions and dandruff, and regulates temperature. As with all breeds, the nails should be trimmed regularly, as overly long nails can cause the dog pain, structural problems, and accidental scratching. If you can hear your dog clicking when he/she walks, that is a great indicator that nails are too long.

Overal Health:

A+

Bernedoodles, in general, are very healthy. As responsible breeders, we ensure that our parents are screened for any health condition such as: hip and elbow dysplasia, blood disorders, cancers, and progressive retinal atrophy.

Additionally, and as recommended for any dog, a Bernedoodle’s ears should be checked regularly for signs of infection, and the teeth should be brushed often, using a toothpaste designed for dogs.

Recommended Health Tests From the National Breed Club:

  • Hip Evaluation
  • Patella Evaluation
  • Ophthalmologist Evaluation
