The bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese mountain dog and a poodle.
This crossbreed mixes the ingenious silliness of the poodle, with the even-tempered fidelity of the Berner. It is also a smaller sized dog for those who think a Bernese Mountain Dog is a bit too large, or have small children in the house and fear that a large dog breed may be too much of a handful. Bernedoodles shed less than Berners, making them safer for people with allergies.
The Bernedoodle is a great companion dog. Some can have a “messy” look about them. I wouldn’t expect them to win the beauty show award, but that’s not the main reason we adopt our furry friend, is it? But if you are looking for someone who will be happy to be with you on a hike, snowshoeing, out on the yard, or laying by the fireplace; then the Bernedoodle will be what you need.
Although our litters are very consistent to avoid any in-breeding, no two Bernedoodles are identical. The genes from the parent change the litter in infinite permutations of coat marking. If you’d like to choose your own puppy marking, perhaps you should coordinate with us to get your puppy after it has been born and maybe even trained. But your options could be limited to what’s available. Since Bernedoodles are so popular, sometimes they are reserved even before they’re born.
(Important characteristics and make up of Bernedoodles)
The matching of a bernese mountain dogs and a poodle really makes a berneoodle the perfect blend to be a family dog.
Researching the history of bernese mountain dogs you will quickly learn as dogs their purpose was to protect the herd. Mixing that history with the poodles intellegence, silliness and desire play. Bernedoodles boast characterestics that lead them to bonding with children via play and the inherit pedigree to look out for them.
Each bernedoodles coat is unique due to their genetics. However, generally we consider all our bernedoodles to be minimal to none when it comes shedding.
We also consider all our bernedoodles to be hypoallergenic however, that term is often miss used. If allergies are an important part of your puppy search, let us know. As there is some puppies that have coats more so suited for allergies.
While they are unquestionably meant to live indoors with their family, Bernedoodles enjoy outdoor activities and make great companions on long walks, hikes, hunting trips, camping, and/or backpacking.
But rest and hydration is also important as bernedoodles love to be outside so make sure they are hydrated and rested.
Keeping Your Bernedoodle active and engaged in some form of exercise controls weight, improves brain activity and extends their overall health.
Early socialization and obedience training are important for all dogs, but especially so for breeds as large as the Bernedoodle. Bernedoodles are intelligent and eager to please, so they are usually easy to train, in fact they enjoy it! They are also affectionate and openhearted; their feelings are easily hurt, and so they don’t respond well to harsh corrections or training methods. They are living proof that gentle giants exist.
They make for great service dogs.
Bernedoodle have a complex mix of long and wooly coats from the Bernese Mountain and the Poodle. Brush your Bernedoodle weekly to minimize shedding and an overgrown coat. Not only it will help your dog look stunning, but it improves coat quality, reduce knotting, minimizes skin conditions and dandruff, and regulates temperature. As with all breeds, the nails should be trimmed regularly, as overly long nails can cause the dog pain, structural problems, and accidental scratching. If you can hear your dog clicking when he/she walks, that is a great indicator that nails are too long.
Bernedoodles, in general, are very healthy. As responsible breeders, we ensure that our parents are screened for any health condition such as: hip and elbow dysplasia, blood disorders, cancers, and progressive retinal atrophy.
Additionally, and as recommended for any dog, a Bernedoodle’s ears should be checked regularly for signs of infection, and the teeth should be brushed often, using a toothpaste designed for dogs.

Ara, a medium Bernedoodle puppy, is a symphony of black, white, and tan, a fluffy masterpiece of a dog. Her coat, a luxurious blend of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle, promises the coveted balance of low-shedding and cuddly softness. At just a few months old, she’s already showing the hallmarks of her breed: intelligence sparkling in her bright eyes, a gentle spirit radiating from her very being, and an almost comical clumsiness as she navigates the world on oversized puppy paws. Ara is, without a doubt, a quintessential medium Bernedoodle, embodying the best traits of both her parent breeds.
Her days are a whirlwind of puppy exploration. Everything is new, everything is exciting. The rustle of leaves in the wind, the buzzing of a bee, the feel of cool grass beneath her paws – all are met with wide-eyed wonder and an enthusiastic tail wag that seems to power her entire body. She pounces on imaginary foes, chases butterflies with single-minded determination, and then collapses in a heap of fluffy exhaustion, only to start the cycle anew moments later. Watching her play is like witnessing pure, unadulterated joy in motion.
Ara’s interactions with people are marked by a gentle sweetness. She approaches everyone with a tentative curiosity, her head cocked slightly as if listening intently to their every word. A soft nudge of her nose, a playful nip at a finger, a soulful gaze from her expressive brown eyes – these are her ways of saying hello, of expressing affection, of simply connecting. She seems to understand the nuances of human emotion, offering a comforting presence when needed, a playful distraction when appropriate. She’s a natural empath, a furry confidante, a four-legged embodiment of unconditional love.
As a medium Bernedoodle, Ara strikes the perfect balance in terms of size. Not too big to be overwhelming, not too small to be fragile, she’s just right for cuddles on the couch, romps in the park, and everything in between. She’s the Goldilocks of the dog world, perfectly proportioned for an active family, a loving individual, or anyone seeking a devoted companion. Her medium size makes her adaptable to various living situations, from apartments to sprawling homes, as long as she gets adequate exercise and mental stimulation.
Ara’s training is progressing beautifully. Her poodle intelligence shines through in her quick grasp of commands and her eagerness to please. She sits, stays, and comes (most of the time) with commendable enthusiasm. House training is going smoothly, with only the occasional accident (a testament to her growing bladder control and her humans’ diligence). She’s learning to walk politely on a leash, although the temptation to chase every passing squirrel remains a powerful force. Socialization is also a priority, and Ara is being introduced to a variety of people, places, and other dogs, ensuring she develops into a well-adjusted and confident adult. This medium Bernedoodle is proving to be a star student.
The medium Bernedoodle breed is known for its gentle and affectionate nature, and Ara is a prime example. She’s incredibly patient with children, tolerating their sometimes clumsy affection with remarkable good grace. She’s always up for a cuddle, whether it’s snuggling on the sofa during movie night or simply resting her head on your lap while you work. She seems to have an innate understanding of the importance of human connection, and she gives her love freely and unconditionally. She’s a true family dog, a furry member of the pack, a source of endless joy and laughter.
Ara’s coat, a mix of black, white, and tan, is a testament to the beauty of crossbreeding. The swirling patterns and contrasting colors create a unique and eye-catching look. Her fur is soft and plush, begging to be touched. As a medium Bernedoodle, she benefits from the low-shedding qualities of the poodle, making her a good choice for people with allergies (although no dog is truly hypoallergenic). Grooming is an essential part of her routine, helping to keep her coat healthy and free of mats. Regular brushing and occasional trips to the groomer will ensure that Ara always looks her best.
Choosing a medium Bernedoodle puppy like Ara is a big decision, but it’s one that comes with many rewards. Her playful nature, gentle spirit, and unwavering loyalty make her a wonderful companion. She’s a dog that will enrich your life in countless ways, bringing joy, laughter, and unconditional love to your home.
